The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos ( in German usually Main National University of San Marcos called ) is an autonomous university in Lima, Peru.
History
It was founded on 12 May 1551 the behest of Charles V and thus by the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, the oldest still existing throughout university in the Americas. It is named after St. Mark the Evangelist.
