Honorio Delgado

Honorio Delgado Espinoza ( born September 26, 1892 in Arequipa, † November 28, 1969 in Lima) was a Peruvian scientist, physician, psychiatrist, philosopher, humanist and writer. He was the first rector (1962-1967) of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima.

Life

Honorio was born in the city of Arequipa in southern Peru, the son of Juan Ramón Delgado and Luisa Espinoza. He settled first in his basic training at the Gran Padre San Agustin de Arequipa at the 1000 kilometers to Lima, where he made his baccalaureate degree. Thus he reached the university entrance qualification and first studied at the Colegio Nacional Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Natural Sciences and from 1912 also medicine at derFacultad de Medicina Humana San Fernando Lima.

He completed his first degree as a doctor in January 1920 with a thesis on the topic: elementals of nature type of function (La naturaleza del proceso de la elemental función ). From 1922 he was Professor of General Pathology.

December 29, 1923, he finished his second degree as Doctor of Natural Sciences with the thesis: The Rehumanisierung of cultural studies in psychology (La Rehumanización de la Cultura Científica por la Psicología ). Honorio Delgado then worked at the Faculty of Medicine as Head of Clinical propaedeutic. From 1930 he was for many years a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychiatry and members of the Faculty of Medicine at the Public Charity Society of Lima (La Sociedad de Beneficiencia Pública de Lima).

In the 60 years due to the politicization of medical school ( Facultad de Medicina Humana San Fernando ) Honorio Delgado founded together with Alberto Hurtado and the other professors Union Medical Cayetano Heredia led to the creation of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Delgado was by selecting the first rector from 1962 to 1966 the new university.

Honorio Delgado died on November 28, 1969 in his home in Lima.

Posthumously

The city council of his birthplace Arequipa built public buildings which bear his name.
