Natural Sciences - The Science of Nature is a monthly scientific journal. It was founded in 1913 by Arnold Berliner ( 1862-1942 ) and published by Springer -Verlag.

The journal deals with topics from the field of natural sciences with a focus on biology, chemistry, geology and physics.

Arnold Berliner wanted to create with the magazine a German counterpart to the English journal Nature. In 1935, Springer-Verlag was forced to transfer him because of his Jewish ancestry to retire. In the year of the collapse of 1945 no edition appeared. The first approved by the Allied Control Commission postwar copy ( under new management ) dated 15 July 1946.

For many years, " The natural sciences " one of the most prestigious international journals. Thus, the discovery of nuclear fission in the issue dated 6 January 1939, the " science " under the heading About the substances resulting from the irradiation of uranium with neutrons alkaline earth metals by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann published. The cited since the appearance of most products was self organization of matter and the evolution of biological macromolecules by Manfred Eigen.

After 1945, the magazine lost much more important. It was 2011, with Impact Factor of 2.278 considerably behind the Anglo-American journals Nature and Science, however, is one of the leading international multi-disciplinary journals.

For the 100th anniversary in 2013 of Arnold Berliner Prize was launched. The prize is awarded annually to the best research contribution honored, published last year in Science.
