Naugatuck is a town in New Haven County in the U.S. state of Connecticut with 32,000 inhabitants ( 2004). The geographic coordinates are: 41.49 ° North, 73.05 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 42.6 km ². Naugatuck is the birthplace of Gilbert Adrian, one of the most famous and influential costume designers in Hollywood.

History

Naugatuck was founded in 1844. The city's name comes from the Native American and means as much as lone tree by the fishing place ( Lonely tree at fishing spot ). The city grew very quickly due to its location on a major waterway, since the conditions for the transport of goods thus were very good. 1849 the railroad came to what further improved the sale and transport of coal as raw material.
