Naval Station Everett

The Naval Station Everett is a base of the United States Navy in Everett, Washington on the northeast side of Puget Sound.

History

Preparations for the construction of the Naval Station ( Navsta ) at Everett began in 1983, when Navy Secretary ( SECNAV ) John F. Lehman, within the concept of Strategic Homeport the establishment of a new naval base in the Puget Sound encouraged. 1984 were selected from 13 applicants Everett, on November 9, 1987, construction began on. In June 1992, the pier was opened in 1994 the base. In the same year, the first warships were stationed in the Navsta, 1997, the USS Abraham Lincoln ( CVN -72) was stationed there.

Facilities

In the base itself, there are two piers. The larger, Pier Alpha is 494 meters long and 37 meters wide and both sides usable. Bravo paper having the same width and is a little shorter. The outside of Pier Bravo serves as a breakwater, located just on the inside of ships. As Pier for the carrier serves the southwestern end of Pier Alpha, because the water depth is only there with 19 meters sufficient for the ships of the Nimitz class.

Between Marysville and Arlington, about 11 miles north of Navsta, the Navy also operates the Naval Station Everett Support Complex with houses, shops and sports facilities for the staff of the base.

Stationed units

In addition to the aircraft carrier stationed in Everett there are also combat ships to protect it. The Navy operational long not own tractor in Everett, if such were needed, commercial boats were requested or transferred to Navy -owned tractors from the Naval Base Kitsap.
