Naval War College (Japan)

The Naval College (Japanese海军 大 学校, kaigun daigakkō, in short:海 大, kaidai ) was founded in 1888 as part of building a modern navy in the Japanese Empire in Tsukiji, Tokyo in Chuo district. In the same year the Naval Academy (海军 兵 学校kaigun heigakkō ) from Tsukiji Etajima, Hiroshima Prefecture was moved.

The original seat of the naval college at today's Tsukiji fish market was badly damaged in the great Kanto earthquake in 1923. In 1932 she moved to Kamiosaki Shinagawa. The naval college was disbanded after the surrender of Japan in 1945.

Many admirals of the Imperial Japanese Navy were graduates of the Naval Academy, including the later Prime Minister Okada Keisuke and Katō Tomosaburō.
