Navigator Peak

BWf1

Navigator Peak is a prominent, sharp peak with an altitude of 1910 m in the West Antarctic Heritage Range, the southern part of the Ellsworthgebirges. It is located at the northern end of the ground level White Escarpment, about 7.4 km east of the Zavis Peak. A track called Gould spur extends from the Navigator peak in a northeasterly direction to Splettstößer Glacier.

The summit took its name from a geological expedition from the University of Minnesota who explored the area in the summer of 1963/64. They called him Navigator peak, as he served as a landmark for navigators and pilots who returned from flights in the southern part of the Heritage Range to the camp of the expedition.
