Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud

Prince Naif (also Nayef ) ibn Abd al - Aziz Al Saud (Arabic نايف بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Nayif b ʿ Abd al - ʿ Aziz Al Sa ʿ ūd, . Born 1933 or 1934 in Ta'if, Saudi Arabia, † 16 June. , 2012 in Geneva, Switzerland ) was the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Saudi Arabia. He was one of the Sudairi Seven, the sons of King Abd al - Aziz ibn Saud and the Hasa bint Sudairi.

Life

Early in his career he developed a loyalty to his brothers. His mentor and predecessor as Minister of the Interior was his eldest full brother, the future King Fahd. Periods of resentment among the Sudairi Seven was settled by Sultan ibn Abd al - Aziz. Due to the stroke and death of King Fahd in 2005, his influence on politics declined.

Under his tenure in 2001 the first identity cards were issued to women in Saudi Arabia. Prince Naif advocated that Saudi Arabia is an economic center for the Middle East. In comparison to King Abdullah, who has placed in recent years cautious signals towards reforms, Naif was considered conservative, such as the matter of women's rights.

2009 Prince Naif by King Abdullah was appointed second deputy prime minister, as Crown Prince Sultan was seriously ill. After the death of Crown Prince Sultan in 2011, he was appointed as expected as the new crown prince.
