Ned Maddrell

Edward " Ned " Maddrell (c. 1877; † 27 December 1974) was a fisherman from the Isle of Man and in his time last person who spoke the language of Manx from childhood.

After the death of Sage Kinvig (1870-1962) he was the last living person who could take claim for themselves, since childhood to speak Manx. He learned Manx by his great aunt, but he had already some rudimentary knowledge of the English language.

Some voice samples of Maddrell were recorded for the preservation of the debate.

Unlike some other native speakers Maddrell seemed to enjoy his status as a local celebrity, and declared himself willing to teach younger people in the language.
