Neel Kashkari

Neel Kashkari (born 30 July 1973 in Stow, Ohio) is an American politician. He was from 2006 to 2009 Secretary of State ( Assistant Secretary of the Treasury ) in the U.S. Treasury and was appointed on 6 October 2008, interim administrator of the 700 - billion-dollar bailout fund for U.S. banks. Since December 2009 he has worked for the investment firm PIMCO.

Early years

The parents of Neel Kashkari, Chaman and Sheila Kashkari, originally from Kashmir, and left India to immigrate to the United States.

Kashkari went to the Stow- Munroe Falls School, and the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. After finishing school in 1991 he studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, where he also made his Masters in Engineering after his bachelor's degree.

Work at TRW

After completing his engineering studies Kashkari began his work at the aerospace company TRW, now Northrop Grumman Space Development, where he was involved in NASA projects such as the James Webb Space Telescope or the Space Interferometer Mission. In June 2000 he left the company to complete the MBA program at the Wharton School.

Work at Goldman, Sachs & Co

With his new degree Kashkari began at the investment bank Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he oversaw the company from Silicon Valley. In July 2006 he became Secretary of State under Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, whom he already knew from his days at Goldman.
