Neoplan Jumbocruiser

Jumbocruiser is the name of the largest bus in the world today in public transport. It was built in 1975-1992 by the German bus manufacturer Neoplan. The vehicle carried the official designation N138 / 4

The Jumbo Cruiser is a 4-axle double-decker articulated bus that takes advantage of the (then) the maximum dimensions permitted for German vehicles. Overall, only eleven vehicles were produced. The first ten models had engine and the drive axle in the center of the vehicle. The engine room is located in a separate housing before and under the joint, so that a transition only on the upper deck is possible. The eleventh and last vehicle of this series was designed as articulated pusher.

Use

Of the eleven vehicles of this type are still nine in operation, but in most cases no longer with the original function as a coach. This is mainly due to the fact that countries such as France Travel articulated buses refuse entrance generally or impose costly exemptions. Furthermore, the market for bus travel took off basically so that tour operators were forced to procure vehicles as inexpensively as possible. The four-axle, 15 -meter-long double-decker Neoplan "Mega Liner" with two front steering axles was denied for these reasons a breakthrough.
