Nephrolepis

Nephrolepis exaltata, a popular house plant.

The sword fern ( Nephrolepis ) are a genus of ferns. It consists of 44 species, which are common in the tropics the world.

The fronds of sword ferns are simply pinnate or pinnately lobed simple and can reach lengths of several meters in some species. They stand on a short, erect rhizome.

Most species grow as epiphytes, some species also on the floor.

In more recent classifications the sword ferns are also provided in a separate subfamily Nephrolepidoideae the Oleandraceae family.
