Neptun Werft

The Neptun Werft GmbH is a German, based in Rostock shipyard on the River Warnow, part of the Meyer Neptun Group since 1997.

History

Founded in 1850 as " Shipyard and Machine Works of William Zeltz and Albrecht table leg ," she was converted, under its Director Henry Eugene Johns in 1890 in the joint-stock company " Neptune " shipyard and machine factory in Rostock, and was led out of the difficult years. Under John's successor, the young manager Gerhard Barg, they expanded greatly. More than 1,500 new ships were built here, even more repaired and rebuilt. The first iron screw steamer of Germany, the " Grand Duke Friedrich Franz " was here in 1851 from the stack.

In 1927 the yard was part of the German shipbuilding and engineering corporation.

During the Second World War, the Neptune shipyard was reinforced by Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke a focus of the defense industry in Rostock, including ten U- boats were built of type VII C here in 1941.

After the end of World War II, the yard was transformed into a Soviet stock corporation SAG Neptune. In the postwar years reparations were carried out for the Soviet Union mainly. In addition to ship repair and new construction of lifting ships and loggers were among these services. In 1953, a state-owned enterprise from the SAG and the yard was from this point VEB shipyard Neptune. The shipyards were constantly expanding to 1989, most recently they stretched from Kabutzenhof until after Bramow. At the turn of the shipyard had more than 7,000 employees. For Neptune shipyard included a repair yard for military ships in Gehlsdorf, an operating part in the patriotic way, a motor vehicle workshop in Budapest road and the sports field operation " Red Earth " at the Hans -Sachs -Allee. After German reunification, the yard belonged to Bremer Vulkan Verbund and had in 1991 due to EU restrictions set the newbuilding. In 1993 the name was changed to " Neptun Industrie Rostock GmbH", 1997, the company became part of the Meyer shipyard group of companies.

Since 2001 on the Neptune shipyard at the new location on the Warnow down again performed new ships: this refers to but substantially in the long river cruise ships such as the A-Rosa Bella or the Viking Longships, as these are not subject to the EU restrictions on the newbuilding. In 2011, the double-ended ferry Schleswig -Holstein for Wyk Steamship Company Fohr Amrum GmbH was built which integrates these in the North Frisian Wadden Sea.

Furthermore, it focuses on modernization and repair any kind of floating vehicles and the production of shipbuilding equipment components. These include, for example components for Ro-Ro ships or luxury yachts and the ferry dock and cranes. In March 2006, the company name of " Neptune Steel Construction GmbH" was changed to " Neptun Werft GmbH ".

The Neptun Werft GmbH employs 480 people; approximately the same number of employees in the various supplier companies engaged (as of February 2014).

Former shipyard

The former shipyard on the outskirts of the city of Rostock is urban planning and newly built. In particular, office buildings and homes are and were rebuilt after many buildings and facilities were demolished (such as the slipway and the elevated guideway with various supply lines ). The promenade continues along the Warnow over the plot away towards Warnemünde. A remaining crane is a listed building and should be preserved. The bunker is a cultural meeting place. The former clubhouse was badly damaged by a fire and was demolished in 2011 because it could no longer be used.
