Neroli

Neroli, neroli oil also is a product obtained from the flower of bitter orange citrus aurantium, more rarely from the Orange Citrus sinensis distillate - an essential oil.

Growing areas

Traditionally, Sicily attributed ( Neroli is said to have received its name, according to legend of the Sicilian Princess Nerola who loved this scent extremely ), it is today mainly in the countries of the Maghreb, ie Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria, but also in Spain and in Caribbean grown.

Production

One ton of flowers about one kilogram Neroli is extracted. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation. There is also the possibility of extraction with organic solvents such as hexane, however, this product should not be used in aromatherapy.

As Neroliwasser the hydrosol is called, which hardly contains terpenes in contrast to the neroli.

In natural products varies, the composition typically is neroli but from about 35% terpenes ( camphene, pinene ), 30 to 35% of terpenols (particularly linalool, further terpineol, geraniol, nerol, and D - nerolidol ), 10 to 11% of esters and aldehydes, and ketones.

Use

  • As valuable natural ingredient in perfumes. Neroli is the scent profile delicately flowery, fresh, sweet, bright and lovely. It is used for the heart note.
  • Neroli is often used because of its relaxing and anticonvulsant, but also at the same time stimulating effect for aromatherapy and should not be confused with the orange peel oil.
