Nesocodon

Nesocodon mauritianus

Nesocodon mauritianus is the only species in the genus Nesocodon in the family of the bellflower family ( Campanulaceae ). It occurs in Mauritius.

Description

Nesocodon mauritianus is a shrub whose leaves crowded at the top of the branches are. The large flowers appear singly in the axils, stalked and drooping. The crown is bell-shaped, pale blue colored and marked with a darker veining. The Corolla lobe are significantly shorter than the corolla tube. The stamens are individually of each other, lie at the crown and not extend beyond it. The dust bags are somewhat shorter than the filaments. The ovary is occupied dreifächrig and with five scarlet, elliptical nectaries, which are added to the stamens. The fruit is a dehiscent capsule laterally fachspaltig with three compartments.
