Neßmersiel is a municipality in the district of Aurich Dornum, Lower Saxony.

Location

Neßmersiel is about five kilometers northwest of Dornum at an altitude of 0 m above sea level. NN and has 399 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). The village consists mainly of holiday homes. It is immediately adjacent to the North Sea and is located directly behind the dike.

History

The original was built around 1570 port, was shipped from which cereals and oilseed rape to Bremen, Hamburg, Holland and Norway, through the muddy embankment to land reclamation and had to be abandoned around 1700. He was moved closer to the lake, but in 1930 he was to ride even longer. It was not until 1969/70 erected a ferry port, is approached from which Baltrum. The shorter journey time of just half an hour meant that since 1986, the ferry service was discontinued on the north dike.

From 1885 to 1977 Neßmersiel belonged to the district of the north.

On July 1, 1972 Neßmersiel was incorporated Nesse in the community. On 1 November 2001 came to this community Dornum.

In July 2006, the 20th anniversary of the National Park Lower Saxon Wadden Sea was celebrated on the beach of Neßmersiel.

Neßmersiel is, among other things starting point for various mudflats.
