Netherlands Symphony Orchestra
The Nederlands Symfonieorkest ( " NedSym " ) is a Dutch symphony orchestra. Abroad it is known under the name of The Netherlands Symphony Orchestra. The home of the orchestra is the Nationaal Muziekkwartier in Enschede. The orchestra performs in Enschede, Hengelo, Zwolle and Deventer, on as well as in the province of Overijssel and in the Randstad.
( " Orchestra of the East" literally OvhO ) known by October 2011 the orchestra in Dutch as the Orkest van het Oosten was. In October 2011, the Dutch name officially changed to achieve a match with the English name.
History
The predecessor of the ensemble Nederlands Symfonieorkest was the Twents Kamerorkest ( " Twente chamber orchestra" ), an amateur ensemble that began in the 1930s under the leadership of Klaas de Rook. 1947 changed its name to Twents this orchestra Philharmonic Orchestra ( " Twents Philharmonic Orchestra ").
In 1954, the orchestra has been professionally involving musicians from the Twents Harpsichord Ensemble and the Twente Chamber Orchestra and called himself Overijssels Philharmonic Orchestra ( " Overijssels Philharmonic Orchestra ").
1983 Overijssels Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera forum were merged. Both orchestras were combined under the name Forum Filharmonisch and operated in two flexible configurations, one for symphonic concerts, the other to the accompaniment of opera productions. For some great symphonic productions each year, the two formations were taken together.
In 1994, the Opera forum Philharmonic was forced to reorganize itself, that is, the orchestra was greatly reduced (40 musicians left it ) and became an independent ensemble under the name Orkest van het Oosten. The Opera portion was also greatly reduced under the name National Reisopera continued, but without orchestra. Chief Conductor
Under the leadership of principal conductor Jaap van Zweden, the orchestra made great qualitative progress. The " Orkest van het Oosten " 2010 was honored with the Edison Award.
Jaap van Zweden was chief conductor of OvhO 1996-2005. Since the 2006/2007 season Jan Willem de Vriend has been chief conductor. After an initial three- year contract was extended its position despite controversy over its management of the OvhO to 2012.
