Neue Schubert-Ausgabe

The New Schubert Edition ( Original title:. Franz Schubert New Edition of the Complete Works ) is a scientific and critical edition of the works of the composer Franz Schubert ( 1797-1828 ). It is published by the International Schubert Society eV; the music volumes appear in the Barenreiter -Verlag, Critical Commentaries published by the International Schubert Society (Tübingen). This edition takes account of the current source position and the latest research results and thus provides a sound basis for the science and musical practice. The New Schubert Edition strives process of the specific character of the schubert between business understanding, to meet, which often finds its expression in equal standing side by side versions and in numerous variants.

History and Funding

Until the 1950s, the preliminary to a New Schubert Edition date back before they took concrete shape: So the history of the New Schubert Edition begins on 19 November 1963 Franz Schubert's 135th anniversary of his death, with the founding of the International Schubert society eV by Walter Gerstenberg and Otto Erich German. The sole task of the company is to allow the publication of the complete works of Franz Schubert, including fragments and designs. Each music volume contains the works of a detailed preface and facsimile reproductions from that used source material as instructive supplement to the edition. At the end of each volume is the section "Sources and readings ." Detailed manuscript descriptions and additional Directories and corrections are recorded in separate critical reports, which are published by the International Schubert Society.
