Neuroendocrinology

Neuroendocrinology is a scientific discipline that deals with the link between the endocrine system with the nervous system. A neighboring scientific discipline is the psycho € endocrinology, which also aspects of the behavior and experience involving.

Development

After the realization that the secretion of pituitary hormones is controlled by the hypothalamus, as part of the central nervous system, it developed into an independent area. Geoffrey Harris showed first that the adenohypophysis is controlled by nerve cells of the hypothalamus released into the portal system neurohormones. They even dismisses regulation and control hormones in the endocrine system. The neurohypophysis is their development after a part of the hypothalamus, actually no hormone gland. Here hormones are fed directly from nerve cells in the hormone system.

Essential importance for the development of this discipline had also Berta Scharrer.
