Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology is a subspecialty of radiology and thus the medicine. The goal is the presentation and evaluation of the nervous system with imaging techniques, including magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography. Furthermore, methods of interventional radiology are used.

According to further education regulations neuroradiology is a focus of competence, the specialists can obtain for radiology. In general, the full development is to be obtained only at university hospitals or large hospitals.

Diagnostics

  • X-ray examinations
  • Computed tomography ( CT) Cranial CT ( CCT)
  • CT angiography ( head and neck )
  • CT perfusion ( stroke, tumors)
  • Temporal bone CT and Virtual otoscopy
  • Diffusion imaging
  • Perfusion imaging
  • Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI )
  • Diffusion tensor imaging and tractography
  • Magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Interventions in neuroradiology

The therapeutic range of Neuroradiology includes, inter alia, the extension of hemodynamically significant stenoses (eg, the internal carotid artery ), the recanalization of occluded vessels (eg Basilaristhrombose ) and the closure of vascular malformations with hemorrhage risk by coiling or other Embolisate.

Professional society

The German Society of Neuroradiology ( DGNR ) is the German medical society for neurological issues within the diagnostic and interventional radiology. The office of the Society is based in Berlin. President of the Society (as of 2013) is Michael Knauth, University Hospital Göttingen.

The DGNR has a statutory objective the promotion of Neuroradiology in practice, technology, research and teaching, in close cooperation with neighboring compartments. In this framework, the Society organizes scientific meetings to promote the national and international scientific exchange on new research and treatment methods in the field of neuroradiology. Since 2009, the annual meeting of the DGNR under the name neuroRAD takes place in Cologne in the fall.

The promotion of scientific research in the field of Neuroradiology uses among others the honor outstanding scientific achievements. For this, the Ziedses -des- Plantes Prize and the Kurt Decker Prize will be awarded. Especially for the promotion of young scientists of Marc- Dünzl Prize is awarded.

Another focus of the society work is the training of medical specialists and scientific personnel in the field of neuroradiology, in particular by providing information on research results as well as the introduction of new medical techniques and treatment methods.
