Neuss–Viersen railway

The railway line Neuss- Viersen is a predominantly disused railway line in North Rhine -Westphalia. She formerly led by Neuss Hbf via Kaarst and Neersen to Viersen, since 1968, it ends in Kaarst.

The larger still in operation section is a single-track and non-electrified branch line today. The shorter section, however, is today expected to railway Ruhrort -Mönchengladbach and is a two-track and provided with catenary mainline.

History

Based on their station Neuss on the links Niederrheinische route built the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft ( RhE ) own route towards Viersen largely parallel to the routes Mönchengladbach- Dusseldorf and Duisburg- Ruhrort -Mönchengladbach the Bergisch- Märkischen Railway Company (BME ) that this had taken over from the Royal Directorate of Aachen- Dusseldorf - Ruhrorter railroad.

On November 15, 1877, the section from Neuss was opened to Neersen, the same day as the railway line Krefeld Rheydt.This. The remaining section to Viersen RhE followed until almost a year later, on 1 November 1878.

Economic Importance

As with many other projects, the planning of the RhE had planned to be able to remove the already established routes market share through a possible straight-line route guidance and thus shorter travel time. Because of alignment at Kaarst and Neersen the city of Mönchengladbach, the largest city in the region with its traffic- very important Mönchengladbach Train Station BME (now Mönchengladbach Hbf ) was not approached, the response to the new track especially with travelers remained subdued.

In particular, the latter reason meant that the route could not be operated profitably, then it could change anything to the main station and the Opened in 1909 as part of the relocation of the railway route Krefeld Rheydt. This connecting curve from Mönchengladbach- Neuwerk. The passenger from Kaarst was posted on September 29, 1968, the freight was followed at the end of 1984.

Conversions

Since the commissioning of the Rhenish railway station in 1878 existed in Viersen two railway stations in the immediate vicinity. This did not change after the nationalization of both railroad companies first several years of nothing, then in 1887 the passenger traffic from the Rhenish railway station was moved to the Mark Brandenburg Station.

30 years later then the entire station Viersen was transferred back to the site of the former Rhenish station after the former straight-line, between Mönchengladbach and Viersen märkische route had been abandoned in favor of a new route to the east erected. These encounters between Viersen and RhE Neersen at kilometer 4.6 on the former Rhine route, which in this section to this day as two-track main line in operation and has been electrified since 1964.

Current situation

In 1998, the Regiobahn GmbH section Neuss- Kaarst of the Deutsche Bahn. Between Neuss Hbf and Kaarster See today served by line S 28 the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr. From the last stop to the confluence of the amended route from Mönchengladbach to Viersen the railway line is completely shut down and dismantled for the most part. On one part of the disused section of the North Channel bike path was built.

By 2003, ran between Kaarst and Viersen an express bus (086 ); it took about 40 minutes for the distance.

Future

Currently, there are plans to extend the line to the former route to be reactivated to Neersen. In addition, there are plans and considerations for two different types:

Furthermore, it is checked whether a breakpoint Neuss Neuss North or Morgensternsheide between Neuss Hauptbahnhof and Kaarst IKEA is feasible.
