Neuwied–Koblenz railway

The railway line Neuwied Koblenz is a two-track and electrified railway mainline in Rhineland- Palatinate. It connects the Neuwied station on the right bank route to the railway junction station in Koblenz and the Rhine's left track and the Moselle route.

History

The railway and the Crown Prince Wilhelm Bridge were built during the First World War from military-strategic reasons by the Prussian state railways and opened on August 15, 1918. At the same time, the Ludendorff Bridge in Remagen were built along with the connectivity of the Ahr Valley railway and the Hindenburg Bridge at Rudesheim along with the connectivity of the Near Valley Railway.

On September 15, 1935, the breakpoint Urmitz Rhine bridge was opened. After the demolition by German pioneers on March 9, 1945, the track was to rebuild in 1954 out of service. Only two years later burned down the bridge, the repair lasted until May 1957.

As of September 22, 1962, the bridge was fully functional again, the route extended through double-tracked and electrified with catenary. For a better connection of the Westerwald on the Brexbachtalbahn a single-track line curve to the south was built on the right bank side to Engers train station, but never put into operation.

1987 the breakpoint Urmitz Rhine bridge was closed. After the renovation of the bridge in 2005, the breakpoint on 28 May 2006 has been reactivated.

Route

The route branches in Neuwied station double track and high-level free with a Überwerfungsbauwerk for the track direction to the north of the Rhine right track. Today's over control center Neuwied Rhine bridge was at times branching point of the link to the station Engers and Brexbachtalbahn.

Immediately on the western bridgehead of Urmitzer railway bridge, the breakpoint Urmitz Rhine bridge connects. The route then crosses in high position, the Neuwied Basin and crosses the motorway 48

At the branching point Kesselheim branches a single track from the eastern side of the road across the river Rhine route, she encounters in the amount of the industrial area north of Koblenz in Koblenz- boys home. There exists in the station Part of Koblenz- Luetzel North of the station Koblenz- Luetzel connection to the port rail of the Rhine harbor Koblenz.

The track itself crosses the Rhine's left route first and runs from the train station part of Koblenz- Luetzel north west parallel to this further through the station Koblenz- Luetzel and about 1927 on four tracks extended Moselle railway bridge.

In height it the former Rhenish station branches the track, two tracks run in a wide curve to the right to the former goods station Koblenz Mosel, a track runs parallel to the left on the Rhine route across the breakpoint Koblenz city center to Koblenz Central Station.

Operation

In rail transport, the route was until December 2010 served exclusively by regional train RB 27 " Rhein -Erft train". This runs every hour between Cologne and Koblenz Hauptbahnhof main station, some already from the station Rommerskirchen or Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof, and leaves in Neuwied station the rights Rhine line.
