Nevfel Cumart

Nevfel Cumart ( born May 31, 1964 in Lingen field ) is a German writer, speaker, literary translator and journalist of Turkish origin.

Career

Nevfel Cumart grew up in Stade and visited the local Vincent -Lübeck High School. After graduation in 1984 he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. Starting in the winter semester 1986/1987 he studied Turkish, Arabic, Iranian and Islamic Studies in Bamberg. Since 1993 he lives as a freelance writer, lecturer, translator and journalist in Stegaurach near Bamberg.

In 1983 his first of now sixteen volumes of poetry. This Cumart among the most prolific publishing German poets of the present, he has received several awards. In addition to poetry collections Cumart published a collection of short stories, prose, numerous articles, essays and literary essays in anthologies and publications. Some of his poems have been translated into Polish, Russian and Greek, two books of poetry published in two languages, German - English edition. He translated works by Turkish authors, among others, of Yaşar Kemal Aziz Nesin and into German.

Since 1992 Cumart literary editors of the Bamberg city magazine " Franconian night " and is a freelancer in the arts section of the daily newspapers " Franconian day" and " Nürnberger Nachrichten ". He lectures and conducts seminars on various topics türkeikundliche, migration in Germany and on the religion of Islam. His reading and lecture tours have taken him several times to foreign countries (including England, Ireland, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland).

Cumart is first Chairman of the New Society of Literature Erlangen eV ( NGL), a member of the PEN Center Germany, the Rotary Club of Bamberg Domreiter and the board of the Association of German writer (VS), Regional Group of Upper Franconia. He belongs to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Georges- Anawati Foundation at the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue.
