New Democracy (Republic of Macedonia)

The New Democracy (Albanian Demokracia e Re, short DR, macedonian Нова Демократија, Nova Demokratija ) is a political party in Macedonia. It was founded in 2008 by former supporters of the Albanian Democratic Party and held until the next parliamentary elections in June 2011, four parliamentary seats held, at which they all but lost.

Ideology

The party represents primarily the minority rights of the Albanian population in Macedonia. In addition, it has many other more democratic- conservative views. So it is among other things a Macedonian accession into NATO and the European Union. It sees the United States as a strategic partner with which Macedonia should maintain good relations. In the " Albanian question " Macedonia sees the Ohrid Framework Agreement as a basis for equality of the Albanian minority with the ( Slav ) Macedonian majority. In addition to protecting the rights of the Albanians in Macedonia it is also available for creating a multi -ethnic state, without supremacy of the Macedonians or otherwise of another ethnic group. It also stands for a complete change of national symbols such as the flag, the anthem and the like, since these do not wiedergäben the multicultural character of the central Balkan country.

Organization

Party chairman was since the founding Imer Selmani. However, he resigned after the parliamentary elections in June 2011. Vice-presidents are Flora Kadriu, Mirjana Sejdini, Abedin Zymberi and Xhever Ymeri. The DR possessed since its division of the Albanian Democratic Party of four seats in parliament, which were occupied by Imer Selmani, Flora Kadriu, Abedin Zymberi and Sulejman Rushiti. In the parliamentary elections on June 5, 2011, however, the result for the DR was devastating: they could not win a single seat; only 1.78 % of the electorate voted namely for the New Democracy.

The DR is under the "Forum of Young Democrats " ( Alb. Forumi i demokratëve të R inj ). It represents their only mayor in the local government, namely Bastri Bajrami in Aračinovo ( Alb. Haraçin ).

Presidential Elections 2010

The DR took during the presidential elections in March 2010 with their party leader Imer Selmani part, the seven candidates was third and a total of 145 379 votes was (14.99 %).

Political Activities

On 14 November 2010, the party organized in front of the Parliament of Macedonia a protest movement against the census law, which is disputed by many parties for some time. The main slogan Nuk regjistrohesh, ekziston nuk! (Eng. " Will you not registered, you do not exist !") was the comparatively peaceful rally.

Together with the Social Democrats and other smaller parties boycotted the New Democracy on 30 January any further parliamentary session. The reason they called that Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski for some time the press freedom in the country restricts strong and that he and his family were engrossed in corruption. The boycott lasted up to the 2011 parliamentary elections, where the DR now holds a single seat held longer.
