New Hanover is a place in the Midlands, the South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. It is located in the municipality in the district uMshwathi uMgungundlovu. It lies at an altitude of 717 meters above sea level and 2011 had 3,175 inhabitants. New Hanover was founded in 1850 by German cotton growers from the area around Hanover. Today the sugar cane cultivation, cultivation and forestry dominate. New Hanover is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Pietermaritzburg.
