New York Air

New York Air was an American low-cost airline based in New York City and based on the LaGuardia Airport.

History

New York Air was founded by Texas Air as the low cost airline in New York City in 1980. The first flight took place on 19 December 1980 from there to Boston. The route network expanded rapidly at first and concentrated on the northeastern U.S. and the service between New York City and Ohio, but losses caused 1982 crisis. A new managing director, Michael E. Levine, restructured the airline, after an initial shrinkage doubled the size of the airline between 1982 and 1984, during which she was almost profitable. 1986 New York Air merged with Continental Airlines.

Destinations

The airline flew to thirteen U.S. states with flights to Boston, Charleston, Cleveland, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Greenville, Hartford, Jacksonville, Knoxville, Martha 's Vineyard, Nantucket, New Orleans, five airports of New York (Newark, La Guardia, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Long Iceland, and White Plains ( New York)), Orlando, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Rochester, Tampa, Washington, DC and West Palm Beach.
