History

The founders of NYIT and especially Dr. Alexander Schure, Ph.D., wanted the college to create a career-oriented school whose main objective is to prepare students for their chosen careers. The NYIT began teaching in 1955 in the 500 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, New York City with only nine students.

The importance of higher education was highly debated at that time. There were concerns that the American schools and colleges, it could not manage to meet the demand for skilled workers and scientists of national importance. This consensus led in turn to the fear that the American people would consist only of scientists and engineers, if you firmly put this theory as a maxim of the education system.

The first chairman of the NYIT managed a kind of balance between career - oriented and social classes. The head of the colleges developed early on a philosophy of success and with the help of many additional services for students trying the success of the college guarantee.
