F The Newtontoppen - named after the mathematician and physicist Sir Isaac Newton - is the highest elevation of the Svalbard archipelago in the North Atlantic. The mountain is located in the northeast of the main island of Spitsbergen in the area of Ny- Friesland and is 1713 meters high. The first ascent was the Swede Helge Backlund on August 4, 1900.

Today, the Newtontoppen is rarely climbed because it is far away from human settlements in the rough and certainly also dangerous Arctic. About a leisurely rising side of the mountain, however, reach from time to ski or snowmobile expeditions to the summit.
