NGC 2264 describes an area ( the Christmas Tree star cluster ), and the diffuse nebulae in between from a part of an H II region ( with a preceding dark cloud, the Cone Nebula ), a star cluster. It is located about 2500 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros and has the dimensions of 20.0 ' x 20.0 ' and an apparent brightness of 4.1 mag.
