Nguyễn Khắc Ngư

Michel Nguyen Khac Ngu ( born February 2, 1909 in Van Dôn, Vietnam, † 10 June 2009) was Roman Catholic bishop of Long Xuyen. Its name combines Western tradition names ( Michel as a first name before the family name Nguyen ) with Vietnamese ( Khac Ngu as a personal name stands behind the family name ).

Life

Nguyen Khac Ngu studied in Lạng Sơn and Paris. After his ordination on June 29, 1934, he worked at the seminary in Lạng Sơn, the pastoral care and for the Secretariat of the Apostolic Delegation in Hue.

On November 24, 1960, he was called by Pope John XXIII. appointed the first bishop of the Diocese of Long Xuyen. He received his episcopal consecration on January 22, 1961, the Archbishop of Hue, Ngo Dinh Thuc Pierre Martin. Co-consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic Emeritus of Saigon, Jean Cassaigne MEP, and the retired Vicar Apostolic of Phát diem, Thaddée Le Huu Tu OCist.

He attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as part of a Council Father.

His resignation was accepted on 30 December 1997 by Pope John Paul II.
