Niccolò Barbaro

Nicolò Barbaro (* 1420, † 1494) was the son of the Venetian patrician Barbaro family and came shortly before the siege of Christian Constantinople by the Turks in 1453 as a ship's doctor in the besieged city. He wrote a detailed diary - the Giornale di dell'assedio Constantinopoli 1453 ( German: Diary of the siege of Constantinople Opel 1453) - with daily entries about the siege and fall of the city. His eyewitness account is still one of the most important sources for the fall of Constantinople.
