Nicholas True, Baron True

Nicholas Edward True, True Baron, of East Sheen ( born 31 July 1951) in the County of Surrey CBE is a British politician of the Conservative Party, which is since 2011 member of the House of Lords.

Life

Study and party functionary

After visiting the Nottingham High School graduated True to study at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge, where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor # Bachelor of Arts ( BA). He was then 1975-1982 in the research department at party headquarters of the Conservative Party worked and completed postgraduate studies at next to Peterhouse, which he finished in 1978 with a Master of Arts ( MA). Subsequently he was assistant to the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, before he was between 1982 and 1986 special adviser to the then Minister for Social Security, Norman Fowler.

Local politician and member of the House of Lords

In addition to his professional activity in the Conservative Party, he began in the mid -1980s, his political career in local politics and was between 1986 and 1990 for the first time a member of the Council of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

In 1997 he became private secretary to the then leader of the conservative opposition faction ( Leader of the Opposition) in the House of Lords, Robert Gascoyne - Cecil, 7th Marquess of Salisbury. He continued in this position until 2010, and was thus also an employee of the successor to the Marquess of Salisbury, Thomas Galbraith, 2nd Baron Strathclyde, who in 2010 was leader of the opposition in the Upper House from December 1998 to May.

Since 1998 True is a member of the Council of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames again and was there between 2002 and 2006, first deputy opposition leader and then leader of the opposition until 2010. Since 2010 he has been Chairman of the Council of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

On 23 December 2010 he was made a peer with the title Baron True, of East Sheen in the County of Surrey in the peerage, and has been a member of the House of Lords.
