Nickel ( III) oxide is a chemical compound of the metal nickel, and belongs to the group of the oxides. Nickel ( III) oxide is a powerful oxidizing and is not known as a pure substance. Often commercially available black nickel oxide is described as nickel (III ) oxide, these are, however, likely to be a non-stoichiometric nickel ( II) oxide.

Production and representation

Impure nickel (III ) oxide can occur when welding nickel alloys.

Nickel ( III) oxide was obtained in a mixture with nickel ( II) oxide by chemical vapor deposition on surfaces.

Properties

Nickel ( III) oxide is a powerful oxidizing. It is to react in a position with hydrogen chloride to elemental chlorine.

Use

Black nickel oxide is used as the electrolyte for the production of ceramic materials, a catalyst, a colorant in the preparation of enamel and for the manufacture of plates for alkaline storage batteries.
