Nicky Piper

Nicky Piper ( born May 5, 1966 in Cardiff, Wales ) is a former boxer in the light heavyweight division. Although he could never win one of the great Boxverbände, he catapulted himself to fight against well-known opponents like Leeonzer Barber, Noel Magee, Nigel Benn and Dariusz Michalczewski limelight. Piper was allowed 2 times for the title of WBO and once for the title of the WBA and the National title of the Commonwealth to fight, but did not win any of these battles.

Professional career

About Piper's amateur career little is known. His first professional fight, he played against Kevin Roper in Afan Lido. He won the fight by knockout in the second round. After three more fights structure, two of which were by knockout, he battled a fight against Maurice Core. A judge evaluated the fight in favor of Piper, while the other is the struggle for Core and the latter evaluated the fight a draw. After this fight Piper denied his fights mostly in England. After he won six construction fights, all by knockout, he was allowed to fight against the former cruiserweight champion Carl Thompson.

Against Thompson, he suffered his first defeat. Piper, who was able to keep Thompson during the fight mostly at a distance, had to go to several strong head hits in favor of Thompson, to the ground. After he was able to get up again, Thompson sent him a second time violently to the ground, which is why Piper was taken from the referee of the fight and Thompson won by TKO.

Piper won six more fights structure, three of them by knockout. Against Frank Eubank, with whom he fought for the British middelweight Title, Piper showed weak and could only thanks to successful counter- punches, the fight to dominate. Only three fights later, Piper fought again by the British middelweight Title, this time against Johnny Melfah. In contrast to the fight against Eubank, Piper showed strong and sent Melfah in round five three times to the ground.

His first famous battle denied Piper against the Americans Nigel Benn for the title of WBC, one of the four world associations. Although Piper went as underdogs in the fight, he showed himself strong against Benn. He brought the reigning WBC world champion even more often on the verge of defeat, but the stronger beats and mostly clean also hit the Defender brought the ringside doctor to take the Piper heavily marked from combat.

After four more fights, three of which victory and a draw ended, he fought against the reigning champion of the WBO, Leeonzer Barber. Even against Barber Piper showed strong, but after the first few rounds, confirmed the assumption that Piper does not leave the battle victorious. Barber was Piper in round five and once in round nine cut down three times and won by TKO.

After a victorious battle against Charles Oliver Piper suffered by Crawford Ashley another defeat in a battle for the National Commonwealth Title. After a six fights long winning streak, Piper played the most famous fight of his career.

He fought against the undefeated world champion of the WBO, WBA and IBF Dariusz Michalczewski, which previously Leeonzer Barber could conquer. Piper had no chance and tried to save her from a knockout loss on tedious cling. But this came about. Michalczewski sent Piper in the fourth round once, in the sixth round and once in the ninth round all three times to the ground, which is why Piper lost by TKO. After this defeat, Piper returned his official retirement from boxing.
