Nicola Adams

Nicola Adams ( born October 26, 1982 in Leeds ) is an English boxer. She was twice runner-up world champion, in 2008 and 2010 Bantamweight Flyweight. In 2012, she became the first Olympic champion in the flyweight.

Career

Nicola Adams, named Nikki, nicknamed "Baby Face", began as a twelve year old in the Star and Fitness Gym in Leeds with the boxes. The local trainer Steven Franks and Leroy Brown was they who taught her the first tricks about this sport. She joined shortly thereafter in the Hard & Fast Police Club in Leeds, where she was trained by Martin Utley, Fred Gummerson and Alwin Belcher. At age 13, she earned their first fight in Leeds. In the following years she was only a few fights deny, because hardly opponents were present. The few fights, which she denied, she won and was therefore included in the England national team, amateur boxers, which was under construction in 2001. From then on, the English coach Terry Edwards and David bins around them cared.

In 2002 she played her first international tournament and finished the Norway Cup in Oslo bantamweight 3rd place. In 2003, it was the first time English champion and in 2004 she participated in the so-called Womens World Tournament in Oslo in part. She had previously contested 12 fights and met in her 13th fight to the reigning World Champion Zhang Zijang from China, against which they only lost on points. When Witch Cup in Pecs, Hungary, she then won her first international boxing tournament and defeated it in the finals Rachel Tillier from France. In 2004 she started then at the European Championships in Riccione. She was able to win a medal, but their exact placement is not known.

In 2005, Nicola Adams had that her BTEC National Diploma earned at Park Lane College, Software and Development in Leeds, restrict because of the audit work their training and competitions. Rate this place they occupied also at the European Championships in Warsaw, where she was defeated in the quarterfinals against Sofya Otschigawa again after a victory over Shirpa Nilsson from Sweden. It was in this year, but again English bantamweight champion.

In 2007 she participated in the Ahmet Comert Cup part in Istanbul and was defeated there in the semi-final against Sofya Otschigawa from Russia convincingly on points ( 2:15 ). Against the same opponent they fought a few weeks later in the finals of the Witch - Cups in Pecs to win the tournament and was again defeated on points, but this time just barely with 3:4 points. In the 2007 European Championship in Vejle / Denmark she struggled with three wins in the final, where she defeated again against Sofya Otschigawa, this defeat with 7:9 points turned out just again. They thus won a European Championship silver medal. That was the first medal ever won by an English boxer in an international championship.

2008 Nicola Adams took in Ningbo / China for the first time participated in a World Championship. In bantamweight she came here to victories over Ludmilla Christowa (8:1), Ludmilla Bondarenko, Russia ( 11:2 ), Lorna Weaver, France ( 7:2 ) and Cynthia Moreno from the United States and was thus in the final battle. In this she met Karolina Michalczuk from Poland and was subject to this fighter on points ( 6:10 ). She won a silver medal with it again. In the subsequent EU Championship in Liverpool they met in the quarter- finals again on Karolina Michalczuk and defeated again after this point ( 9:13 ), which is why they finished only fifth place in the championship.

In 2009, Nicola Adams was due to injury incur no competitions. But in 2010 she managed a brilliant comeback. They first won the so-called Minoan Womans Cup in Heraklion / Greece flyweight, where she defeated Elena Sawaljewa from Russia (4-2 ), Alexandra Kuleschewa from Russia ( 7:5 ) and Shripa Nilsson from Sweden ( 9:4 ). In the subsequent 2010 World Cup in Bridgetown / Barbados, she started again flyweight and defeated there Mareille Hansen, Norway ( 8:2), Virginia Nave, France (8:2), Jang Eu -na, South Korea (12:1 ) and Hanne Mäkinen, Finland ( 11:4 ), respectively sure on points. In the final, she stood Ren Cancan over from China, but against which they lost by points ( 5:10 ), and in turn became Vice World Champion.

2011, Nicole Adams in Rotterdam with wins over Katie Rowland, Ireland, Marielle Hansen, Norway, Stojka Petrova, Bulgaria and Sara Ourahmoune, France, European champion at flyweight.
