Nicolas Gigault

Nicolas Gigault (* 1627 in Paris; † August 20, 1707 ) was a French organist and composer.

Life and work

Nicolas Gigault received his education at home in his hometown, but it is not known what were his teachers. Anyway, he worked all his life in Paris as an organist at various churches.

He created sacred songs, which should be reported with a variety of occupations, in addition he has published around 180 organ works that have been influenced by Jean Titelouze. 1683 his " Livre de musique à la Très Dedie Saincte Vierge " published, which includes 20 Noëls variés ( variations on traditional carols ) for organ or harpsichord was. In 1685 he published his " Livre de musique pour l' orgue ... plus de 180 pièces pour servir ... sur tous les jeux à 1, 2, 3, 4 et claviers et pedalles en basse et en taille "
