Nicolien Sauerbreij

Nico Sauerbreij ( born July 31, 1979 in De Hoef, The Netherlands) is a Dutch snowboarder.

As the daughter of a ski instructor Sauerbreij was already at the age of 2 years on skis. It was not until the age of twelve she moved to snowboarding. Just two years later at the Junior World Championships, she had her first major international appearance with a fourth place.

After the first initial successes Nico Sauerbreij was the flag bearer for the Netherlands at the opening ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Nico Sauerbreij won several international snowboarding competitions in the years 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2008. In 2008 she won the World Cup in Parallel Slalom and Snowboard World Cup. At the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010, she won the gold medal in the parallel giant slalom.

In the Netherlands in 2010 was voted the athlete of the year.
