Niederlahnstein is a district of Lahnstein in Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate.

Niederlahnstein is on the right side of the Rhine and on the right side of the Lahn, at the mouth of the Lahn with the Rhine.

History

The town received its charter in 1322. Niederlahnstein belonged to Engersgau and in the 18th and 19th century the Duchy of Nassau. Through the Austro-Prussian War, the town was Prussian. Since the Second World War Niederlahnstein part of the state of Rhineland- Palatinate. Until 1969, the place was a separate district town. On June 7, 1969 Niederlahnstein was united with the neighboring city Oberlahnstein the Great district town of Lahnstein.

Population Development

St. John's Church

Between 1130 and 1136, the St. John's Church was built. It burned in 1794 completely. Until 1856/57 the church stood as a ruin. This was followed by a reconstruction, until 1884 a fire broke out again and brought the tower to collapse. 1906, the church was to see the Abbey.

Education and infrastructure

In Niederlahnstein located next to the Schiller School - a primary school which until 2007 was also the main school - private Johannes -Gymnasium Lahnstein and an indoor pool.

Traffic

Niederlahnstein has its own station on the railway line Cologne -Wiesbaden (Right Rhine line ) and the Lahn Valley Railway.

Through the village the main road runs 42 and as a branch starts the federal highway 260

Since 1873, a road bridge connecting the two parts of the city Lower and Upper Lahnstein, which was named in Rudi Geil 2008 bridge.
