Nieszawa

Nieszawa ( German Nessau ) is a city in the Kujawsko - Pomerania, in north central Poland in the powiat Aleksandrowski. Nieszawa has about 2,000 inhabitants.

In 1422 the municipality had briefly international importance as the German order of knights, who had conquered since 1226 in East Prussia, Livonia (now Latvia), parts of Estonia and the northern Poland a great empire, according to the Peace of Melnosee after long negotiations among others Nieszawa had to cede to the Kingdom of Poland. Also in place granted and confirmed King Casimir IV in 1454 the Polish nobility privileges by the Statute of Nieszawa.

In the spring of 1945 German civil lists were murdered by Polish guards in Nieszawa about a dozen. Since 2004, a monument with the inscription: "We forgive and ask for forgiveness " to the deed.
