Nieuwe Sluis

The lighthouse Nieuwe Sluis, is a Grade II Listed lighthouse near the peasantry Nieuwe Luis in the municipality of Sluis, about three kilometers west of Breskens in the Dutch province of Zeeland.
Building
The octagonal tower has a height of 28.4 meters and has five floors. The lighthouse is painted black and white and is located on the sea wall at the entrance of the Westerschelde.
History
The tower was designed by the architect Quirinus Harder and built in the period 1866-1867. He is one of the oldest surviving cast iron lighthouses in the Netherlands. During the Second World War, the lighthouse was some time out of service. On 3 October 2011, the operation was finally stopped.
