Nigel Harris (economist)

Nigel Harris ( b. 1935 ) is a British economist. He specializes in the economics of metropolitan areas. He is an emeritus professor of urban economics at University College London. In addition, he is a senior policy adviser at a think tank, the European Policy Centre in Brussels, for the issue of international migration.

He received his B. A. and M. A. in philosophy, politics and economics in the years 1959, and 1962 respectively, and his Ph.D. ( Thesis: Economic and industrial policy of the British Conservative Party, 1945-1964 ), in 1963, at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Harris was a time, a senior member of the British Socialist Workers Party and gave out their printing International Socialism.

Most recently, he worked largely for the World Bank. Public notoriety he achieved in the UK through its advocacy and defense of immigration, in works such as Thinking the Unthinkable: The Immigration Myth Exposed (2001) and he is currently a member of the Migration Committee of the Royal Society of Arts.
