Nigel Rogers

Nigel David Rogers ( born March 21, 1935 in Wellington, Shropshire, England ) is an English tenor, conductor and music teacher.

From 1953 to 1956 he was Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. He received a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 and finished his studies there in 1960 with a Master of Arts. Among his teachers was from 1959 to 1964 and the baritone Gerhard Hüsch of the Academy of Music in Munich.

In the early days of his career as a singer he devoted himself to music early and made his name as a Baroque artist. His operatic debut was in 1969 in Amsterdam.

Since 1978, he taught at the Royal College of Music in London singing. Since 1980 he is honorary member of the Royal College of Music. In 1979 he founded the vocal ensemble Chiaroscuro for the performance of Italian music. In 1985 he made ​​his debut as a conductor.

Rogers has recorded many recordings, which extend from Guillaume de Machaut to Franz Schubert. He has been particularly devoted to compositions by Claudio Monteverdi. Rogers also makes scientific publications and writes for magazines.
