Nigel Vinson, Baron Vinson

Nigel Vinson, Baron Vinson of Roddam Dene in the County of Northumberland, LVO, DL ( born January 27, 1931) is a British entrepreneur, business leaders and politicians of the Conservative Party, which is since 1985 member of the House of Lords.

Life

Business owners and managers in the private sector

After visiting the Pangbourne Nautical College Vinson joined in 1948 as a soldier in the Queen's Royal Regiment in West Surrey, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1950 upon his release.

In 1952 he founded in Guildford a small business in the plastics and plastics industry, which had 1,000 employees in 1969 and in 1971 was awarded the Queen's Award for Industry. In the following years he became involved in numerous professional associations and organizations, and was among other things, 1971-1977 Member of the Advisory Committee on the Arts and Crafts ( Crafts Advisory Committee ), and 1973-1980 of the Design Council. In addition, he was 1973-1980 Board Member of BAA Limited and was in June 1974 co-founded the think tank Centre for Policy Studies (CPS ) for which he worked until 1980.

Within the British Employers' Association Confederation of British Industry (CBI ) Vinson since 1975 Member of the Grand Council and was from 1979 to 1983 and also a member of the Presidential Council 1979-1984 and Deputy Chairman of the Council of the CBI for small businesses. In addition, he served from 1979 to 1990 as President of the Association for Industrial Activities (Industrial Participation Association) and between 1980 and 1990 as chairman of the Commission for Rural Development ( Rural Development Commission ). He was also from 1982 to 1987 member of the board of Barclays.

For his service in 1979 he was Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.

House of Lords member

On January 1, 1985, he was raised by a Letters Patent as a life peer with the title Baron Vinson of Roddam Dene in the County of Northumberland in the peerage. On February 7, 1985 his Introduction ( Introduction) followed as a member of the House of Lords.

Lord Vinson, in 1990, deputy lieutenant of the county of Northumberland, was a member of the Foundation for Science and Technology since 1991. Between 2000 and 2005 he was president of the Conservative Party of Berwick -upon- Tweed. In addition, since 2003 he is a trustee of the think tank Institute for the Study of Civil Society ( CIVITAS ).
