Night porter

The night clerk is an employee in a hotel or restaurant business, which handles the costs incurred in the night hours reception duties and cares for arriving guests. In general, there is this career field in hotels with four stars and up. Among the work to be done at night usually from 22:00 clock to 06:00 clock responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving and controlling the waiter slips
  • Contact and leadership for employees ( thus shift supervisor )
  • Point of contact for guests and representation of the Directorate during the night
  • Occupation of the reception ( check-in/check-out )
  • Receive all phone calls ( during activities outdoors using forwarding to mobile phones )
  • Enter addresses and information from guests (according Registration Act ) in the system
  • Monitoring of all safety- relevant areas and facilities
  • Carrying out regular patrols throughout the hotel area
  • Transmitter of all important information of the previous day to the morning shift
  • Preparation of the daily closing (Collection of all accounting data for one day )
  • Some hotels also preparing breakfast and domestic work

The night porter has its various tasks flexibly grouped and judged according to daily changing priorities.

Vocational training in the hospitality industry is not a prerequisite for the activity as a night porter, but is welcome. Applicants with specialized training in one of the possible areas of the hotel industry are therefore given preferential treatment. Accounting skills and knowledge is an advantage.

Conditions, which should have a night porter are

  • Organizational skills ( even in difficult and controversial situations)
  • Courteous manner and a neat appearance
  • Knowledge of foreign languages ​​(at least English )
  • Reliability and loyalty
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Independence
  • Extensive computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Trained dealing with people
