Nijō Yoshimoto

Nijo Yoshimoto (Japanese二条 良 基, * 1320, † July 16, 1388 ) was a Japanese waka and Rengadichter, scholar and court official.

The son of Kampaku Nijo Michihira received in his youth court honorary offices. Until the split in the North and Süddynastie 1336 he was in the service of the Emperor Go - Daigo. He then joined the North Court, where he maintained good relations with both the imperial court and the shogunate. From 1381 to 1287 he held the office of dajo daijin ( Grand Chancellor ).

His career as a writer began Yoshimoto with traditional Wakagedichten. Its real importance as a poet he gained in the field of Rengadichtung that in the volumes Bunna Senku ( 1355 ) and Ishiyama hyakuin ( 1385 ) published. A Renga Competition with the poet Shua appeared under the title Yoshimoto Shua hyakuban renga - awase.

With the poet Gusai Yoshimoto compiled the Rengasammlung Tsukuba shū, which appeared in 1357. He also wrote several theoretical writings on the Renga poetry, including Tsukuba mondo ( 1372 ), Kyushu mondo ( 1376 ), Renga juyo ( 1379 ) and Jumon saihisho ( 1383 ). On his last work Nijo Oshikoji kamonteisenki ( 1388 ), he wrote to a few days before his death.
