Nikitin NV-1

The Nikitin NW- 1 (Russian Никитин НВ -1) was a small single-seat sports and trainer aircraft in low-wing version, which was designed by the Soviet aircraft designer Vasily Nikitin, built in early 1933 and tested by the test aviator Valery Chkalov in September of the same year. The goal was a fast and maneuverable aircraft with forgiving flight characteristics for the training of pilots to create. It should have properties that came close to a fighter.

History

The NW- 1, was developed for use in the Ossoawiachim, the forerunner of the DOSAAF and Nikitin was the first self-construction. In the test flights, it turned out quickly that this aircraft had very poor flight characteristics and only by experienced pilots was manageable. Chkalov should have taken nine to twelve flights in the context of testing. Because of the experiences you made with this aircraft, the development was regarded as purely experimental and development as necessary. This development turned out to 1935/1936 in a cantilever low-wing aircraft with the designation Nikitin NW- 2 dar.

Construction

The NW -1 was prepared in mixed construction and had a short stocky trunk in steel tubular construction with partial aluminum cladding. The from the middle upwards bent outer wings were wooden structures with fabric covering and the middle of the hull, braced front of the open cockpit. Additional bracings were located underneath the wings. This led on both sides of the outer sides of the faces of the panels and chassis between the running gear of the inside of the panels on the hull bottom. The solid " leg " - chassis had no shock absorption, and was equipped with balloon tires. The aircraft was powered by a 110 hp radial engine of the type M -11. The propeller was taken over by the U-2. A similarity with the Polikarpov I-16 was certainly present. The fuselage should at a later development Nikitin in 1939, the Double Decker NW- 6, again be used.
