Nikolai Ostrovsky

Nikolai Alexeyevich Ostrovsky (born 16 Septemberjul / September 29 1904greg in Viliya, Volhynia province, .. † December 22, 1936 in Moscow) was a Ukrainian revolutionary and Soviet writers.

Life

Early on, the young Ostrowski sympathized with the revolution. After the German occupation and during the civil war in 1919, he joined the Komsomol, the Communist Youth League in. As a volunteer, he went to the front and fought under Kotowski in Budjonnys Cavalry. 1920 Ostrowski was severely wounded. He went blind in one eye and was demobilized. In 1924, Ostrowski in the Communist Party. Since the end of 1926 Ostrowski was bedridden and blind in both eyes. He began dictating books and the study of Marxism. In 1932 he published his first and most famous, mostly autobiographical novel How the Steel was hardened ( Как закалялась сталь ). Ostrowski in 1935 was awarded the Order of Lenin. Nikolai Ostrovsky died in 1936. His three-part novel The Storm infants ( Рождённые бурей ) remained unfinished until the first part.

Ostrowski honor were also named in the GDR numerous roads, schools and kindergartens after him. A few of which bear his name today.
