Nikolaus Newerkla

Nicholas Philip Newerkla (* 1974 in Horn, Lower Austria ) is an Austrian harpsichordist, arranger, composer and ensemble leader.

Newerkla studied music education and piano performance at the University of Music in Graz Eike Straub, but soon devoted himself - encouraged by his long-time teacher, the organist and improviser Kurt Neuhauser - especially the historical keyboard instruments, especially the harpsichord and the fortepiano.

Nicholas Newerkla is the founder and director of the early music ensemble Quadriga Consort, with whom he has performed in many European countries and the USA at renowned festivals and concert organizers. The ensemble soon specialized in popular old music from the British Isles, arranged Nicholas Newerkla for period instruments. With the processing of numerous popular dance tunes and songs for original sound instruments Nikolaus Newerkla has acquired an international reputation as an arranger and editor.
