Nikolaus Stanec

Nicholas Stanec ( born April 29, 1968 in Vienna) is a leading Austrian chess master. He currently plays for the SC Danube City in Vienna Provincial League.

Life

Nicholas Stanec learned chess age of five from his father. The age of eight he joined a chess club and played hard until the age of 14, but the play broke in favor of his high school years. After high school he enrolled in psychology and chemistry at the university. After a short time but he broke off his studies and focused on his chess career.

Achievements

1991 succeeded now a professional chess player, the first standard for title of International Master. Stanec won for the first time in 1995, the Austrian State Championship, then except in 2001 every year until 2005 ( currently 10 league titles ). In 1997 and 1999 he won the Austria Open, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003, the Danube Open in Vienna. In 2003 he won in Ansfelden. FIDE awarded him in November 2003, the grandmaster title.

His Elo rating is 2502 ( as of March 2014); he is thus at fourth place in the Austrian Elo ranking. Stanecs highest ever Elo rating was 2568 in October 2005.
