Nikolay Iliev

Nikolai Iliew ( Bulgarian Николай Илиев; born March 31, 1964 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian football player.

It owes its name recognition in Germany of the fact that he played in the season 1991/1992 with Hertha BSC in the 2nd Bundesliga Nord. The defender scored a goal in ten games and end up with Hertha reached the third place. Iliew began his career in 1983 with Levski Sofia. After six years he moved to FC Bologna in 1986, before he joined Hertha BSC 1991. After his return to Levski Sofia he played a season for the club from the Bulgarian capital. Last leg of his active time was Stade Rennes, where he ended his career after the 1994/95 season.

Iliew played in 54 international matches for the Bulgarian national football team and scored five goals. He also belonged to the Bulgarian national team that reached the semi-finals at the World Cup 1994 1994.

1987 Iliew was elected Bulgarian Footballer of the Year.

Today Iliew is in the soccer school of Bayer 04 Leverkusen active.
